Operation of Beauty Systems Group LLC (hereafter referred to as CosmoProf®) will be holding nail competitions at its Baltimore Fashion Focus Event and the NAILPRO Competition Staff is running it! See Rules below.

The top 3 winners will receive trophies and a cash prize! 1^st place - $125.00,

2^nd place - $100.00, 3^rd place - $75.00.

 General Competition Rules and Information  

Qualifications

NAILPRO - CosmoProf®, nail competitions are open to all beauty professionals licensed or qualified to perform nail services. Current students and beauty professionals from states or countries in which licensing is not required are also eligible to compete. Proof of licensure or qualification (such as school enrollment certificate or letter confirming salon employment) may be required.

Rules

1.  ALL WORK MUST BE DONE ON SITE.  No pre-done work is allowed, unless otherwise noted.

 
2. Any competitor or model found not complying with the NAILPRO  - CosmoProf® - rules before, during or until the close of the show is subject to possible disqualification and/or point deduction. In the event disqualification occurs after awards and/or prizes, cash or otherwise, have been distributed, the disqualified contestant must return their trophy as well as any and all cash prizes to NAILPRO  - CosmoProf® staff.

 
3. Competitors are responsible for making sure that they and their models understand and comply with the competition rules. Failure to comply may result in point deduction or disqualification at the discretion of the NAILPRO - CosmoProf® competition staff.
 
4. Competitors must report at the scheduled registration time to receive entry numbers. Late arrivals may not be accepted.

 
5. Competitors must supply their own models when models are required. Models must be at least 18 years old. Unless otherwise stated, only live models may be used.
 
6. Competitors must supply ALL necessary products and supplies, including lamps and extension cords. Products must be in labeled containers.
 
**7. The rules will be reviewed in a mandatory questions only scheduled 15 minutes before the start of the competition unless otherwise noted.

**8. Once the briefing starts, competitors will not be allowed to touch their models until the start of the competition. Failure to comply will result in disqualification.

9. Competitors must have all products they are going to use out on their work area, and all cases must be closed. After the competition has begun, competitors may not reach into the case without competition staff present.

10. Any prohibited products or supplies found at a competitor’s workstation will be confiscated, and the competitor may be disqualified at the discretion of the NAILPRO - CosmoProf® competition staff. Products will be returned at conclusion of award ceremony, and then only by request.
 
11. Once the competition begins, competitors and/or models may NOT leave the competition area without the permission of the competition staff. Failure to comply will result in disqualification.
 
12. When a competition ends, competitors must immediately stop working, and move away from their work stations as directed. Competitors are NOT allowed to touch their models again until after they have been judged. Failure to comply will result in disqualification.
 
13. When a competition ends, models must stand and follow the instructions given by the competition staff. Models may NOT leave the competition area until excused by the competition staff.
 
14. During the judging process, models may NOT speak to other models or to the judges.
 
15. Models are NOT allowed to wear any jewelry on their hands, wrists or arms, including watches. Failure to comply will result in a deduction of 5 points in the category of  ”overall”.

16. Models are NOT permitted to move the judge’s curtain during the judging process.
 
17. Competitors are NOT allowed in or near the judging area at any time. Failure to comply will result in disqualification.
 
18. When directed, competitors must promptly clean their work stations and leave the competition area.

**19.  The NAILPRO - CosmoProf® competition staff reserves the right to final interpretation of all rules.
 
 

INFORMATION:

1. These competition rules are in effect for NAILPRO - CosmoProf® 2012. For rule clarification, please contact the Competition Message Center at (800) 787-5135 or e-mail nailprocomps@creativeage.com, jcmayor@aol.com, or call 818-516-2999.

2. Upon registration, competitors and their models give consent to Creative Age Publications and CosmoProf® operation of Beauty Systems Group, LLC and all of its properties to freely use in any Creative Age Publication’s magazines and/or reproduce any and all photographs taken at the show, including those taken by photographers hired for the show by Creative Age Publications or CosmoProf®. All photos are property of Creative Age Publications and CosmoProf® and may not be used without written permission.


3. NAILPRO - CosmoProf®  competitions utilize analytic scoring to judge the entries. Three judges preview entries for the process of elimination.  The judges select no more than ten finalists to be scored. All other entries are excused prior to scoring by the judges.
 
4. The finalists are viewed during the scoring process. Finalists are evaluated in ten categories; each category is worth a possible five or ten points, ranging from 1 (Unacceptable) to 10 (Flawless). Each of the three judges is responsible for four categories. The categories for each competition are listed in the rules specific to that competition. Only finalists receive score sheets.

5. The competition staff calculates the final scores, and the judges verify the placements before excusing the finalists. Any ties will be broken by the Head Judge. The decision of the judges is final. 

 6. Access to the competition area is limited to competitors, models, and NAILPRO - CosmoProf® competition staff.

7. Competitors and models should plan to attend the Awards Ceremony to receive recognition and certificates of participation. Immediately after the ceremony, the competition staff will distribute score sheets to the finalists, and the judges will be available to answer questions and make suggestions for improvement.
 
8. Any and all prize or trophy revisions are announced during the briefing or after awards.
 
9. New rules, competitions and/or new information are not up for discussion. Any ideas for improvement may be presented via e-mail to nailprocomps@creativeage.com at the end of the competition year only.
 

10. NAILPRO - CosmoProf® competitions are a showcase for the nail industry. The NAILPRO - CosmoProf® competition staff expects all participants to conduct themselves in a professional, sportsmanlike manner.

Soak-off Gel Manicure Rules:

1. No enhancement products other than soak-off gel polish may be present at the station. No regular gel may be used in any capacity.
2. No typical manicure will be performed during the competition. Model’s nails should be prepared for soak-off gel polish application before competition start time is called.
3. Cleansing products (soaps, etc.) and moisturizing products (oils, creams, lotions, bowls with anything in them:  marbles, rocks, etc.) are NOT allowed.
4. The natural nails of one hand (competitor’s choice) must be covered with soak-off red FROSTED gel polish.
5. The natural nails on the opposite hand must be covered with French-style pink and white soak-off gel polish combination. Traditional French-style pink and white soak-off gel polish colors must be used.
6. No artwork is allowed.
7. Soak-Off Gel Manicure will be judged in the following ten categories: smile lines, shape, soak off gel polish application (French-style), finish work, cuticle area, surface smoothness, soak off gel polish application (red frosted), product control, length, lateral view, color balance and overall impression.

**Soak Off Gel Manicure Judging Criteria

Judge 1

Smile Lines – 5 Points

·         the smile lines are crisp and reach completely up into each corner. (definition between pink and white)

·         the smile lines are symmetrical and consistent (even points and equal curvature) 

·         absence of all shadows

Shape – 5 Points

         •  the shape is consistent finger to finger

         •  the shape proportionate  to the hand

Red Frosted Soak Off Gel Polish Application – 10 Points

•          the soak off gel polish completely covers the entire nail (close to the cuticle and covers all edges)

•          the application is smooth, even and clean

•          the soak off gel polish is even in shape and spacing around cuticles

•          the hairline tip is covered with polish

Finish Work– 10 Points

•          the edges of the nails are smooth and finished

•          the nails are thoroughly clean (absence of dust)

Judge 2

Cuticle Area – 10 Points

•         the product is close to but not touching the cuticles

•         the model’s skin at the cuticle area is in excellent condition (free from

           abrasions and product)

Surface Smoothness – 10 Points

•          the entire surface of the finished nail is smooth and very shiny

•          nails are free from dull areas

•          no dips, bumps or high spots in surface

Pink and White Soak Off Gel Polish Application –10 Points

•          the white soak off gel polish completely covers the free edge of the nails including hairline tip

•          the white soak off gel is solid and free from shadows

•          the complete application is smooth, even and clean

•          the pink soak off gel polish is even in shape and spacing around cuticles

Product Control – 10 Points

•         soak off gel polish is free of pooling at cuticles or lateral folds

•         soak off gel is applied thin and evenly free of wrinkles and streaking

Judge 3

Length– 5 Points

•               the length, measured from cuticle to the free edge is consistent between matching nails (pinkie to pinkie, etc.) and in proportion to each other

•               the length appears balanced on the models hands

Lateral View – 10 Points

•               gel polish application at sidewall and surface is even and straight

•               sides walls of natural nails are consistently shaped

Underside of Nails – 5 Points

•               the underside of the nails are clean and free from all soak off gel polish

•               the underside of each hand looks the same

Overall Impression – 10 Points

•               the soak off gel polish complements the model’s hands

•               the soak off gel polish French manicure and red frosted soak off gel polish application is complete and needs no improvement
